Booting a Kali Linux ISO from the Hard Drive

Editing the GRUB2 boot loader to allow a Kali Live instance to run

Author: Exweeto

I have an old laptop with Linux (Mint) already installed, but I wanted to install another distro (Kali) so that I could have dual boot capability. However, since installing Linux, the DVD drive died, so I couldn't install from an ISO burned to a CD. I was able to boot from USB into a live instance of Kali, but when I tried to install from there it insisted on a CD-ROM drive, which it couldn't find. Here, then, is a solution that worked... running the ISO directly from the hard drive!
